Winter Classic details emerging
With the weather in Chicago feeling downright wintry already, it seems only apropriate that ticket information regarding the Winter Classic is beginning to drop like the temperature.
Blackhawks season ticketholders received ticket pricing and onsale information yesterday for the New Year's Day game, while the general public onsale date and time expected to be released by next Monday. There are 3 levels of ticket pricing: $75, $225 and $325, with the upper deck sections commanding top price due to better visibility of the rink. A number of box seats with limited view will also be given to youth hockey clubs in Illinois.
Hawks season ticket holders will have first access to a presale running Nov. 3-13, depending on seniority and seat location, with the public onsale expected to follow soon thereafter. With the 14,000 season ticket holders getting first priority and the NHL controlling the rest of the tickets, it's unclear exactly how many of the roughly 41,000 seats will be available to the public, but the Classic is expected to be one of the most sought-after tickets in Chicago sports history.
In other Winter Classic related news, during last Saturday's Detroit-Chicago game, the NHL and the two teams debuted the retro-style sweaters to be worn for the game. The Hawks jersey, modeled after the team's 1936-37 uniforms, is black with red and beige horizontal stripes on the chest and the classic Indianhead crest. The Red Wings white and red sweater has a large old English "D", similar to a style worn in 1926-27.
And of course, for all your marketing needs, the NHL is proud to offer the jerseys and all other Winter Classic merchandise for sale at their official site. Sweaters can also be ordered from the Hawks directly and at Hawkquarters. Of course, for those not rich, it may be a tough decision between the $350 jersey and the $325 seat, but it's not as if the country is in a recession or anything. At least the $7 beers will taste just as good if they're not frozen...

I went to the game and took some really nice 2009 Winter Classic Photos. It was great to watch the game outside at Wrigley Field.
