Slaughter Continue Winning Ways

The Chicago Slaughter put their undefeated streak on the line Friday night at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates against the Rock River Raptors. The Slaughter continued their dominance at home beating the Raptors 69-38. They improved their record to 2-0 at home and 3-0 overall.

Despite winning big at home again Slaughter Quarterback Russ Michna said, "The thing that frustrates me is we still had a few bad plays."

"We had a few issues with the snap, a few plays where the ball went to the wrong place," said Michna. In a closer game, "we can't do those things," he said. Although there were a few miscues during the game Michna liked the way his offense performed.

"I was really impressed with our receivers. I thought they went and got the ball real well," he said, "We did a nice job up front for the most part again. I just hope teams continue to blitz us because it makes the game a lot easier."

Michna was 17-of-26 for 280 yards with no interceptions.

Slaughter wide receiver Donovan Morgan was Michna's favorite target all night long. Morgan had 7 catches that went for 111 yards and resulted in 3 TD's. Wideout Dontrell Jackson also had 7 catches with 126 yards and 2 TD's.

The score was 35-6 at the half which resulted in a few verbal and physical altercations before half time. "There were too many penalties," said Morgan, "It kind of slowed the game down and took the fun out of really playing football.

"I try to tell our guys to compose them selves and learn how to control their anger," he said.

Tempers were flaring and that resulted in the ejection of Raptors player Joe Lara for throwing punches.

Team chemistry is an important part of any good ball club. Morgan attributes his success with Michna to having worked with him while playing together with the Chicago Rush.

"As you guys know he was my QB last year with the Rush and I caught 113 balls with him so you could say I have great chemistry with him," he said.

While the Slaughter dominated another opponent at home Morgan states there is always room for improvement.

"It's like coach [Steve] McMichaels said, 'practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.' I really believe that model; and if we practice by that model I believe we can get there," he said.
