Bright Lights, Big Derby: WCR Bout 5
Holy upsets -- what a year it's been for the Windy City Rollers! The Manic Attackers, previously the league's black sheep, are finally reaping some rewards. Meanwhile, two-time season champions The Fury can't seem to catch a break. What's going on?
The April 9 bout pitted the Double Crossers against the Manic Attackers. Despite the nearly constant volleying of hard blocks and slamming jams, the Manics were unable to pull into the lead. The game finished with the Crossers' win of 117-81. Meanwhile, the normally hard-and-fast Fury have a 0-4 year after the Hell's Belles beat them into submission, 128-53.
With so much in the air, Bout 5 (of the the six-game season before the Ivy King Cup Championship) is bound to be an exciting one. On Saturday, May 2, the Double Crossers will take on the Hell's Belles, and the Manic Attackers will once more face The Fury. It all shakes down at the UIC Pavilion (525 S. Racine) at 6 p.m. Tickets will run you $20, and you can find them here.
