Will The Bulls Make The Playoffs?
With five games left to play and with the Bulls mere percentage points ahead of Detroit, it's a little too early to say, emphatically, "Yes." But, the Bulls are on the verge of returning to the second season for the first time since 06-07. Still, the MoTown Get Along Gang, aka: the Detroit Pistons, have had a decade's worth of discontent and injury bugs crammed into this season and yet, there they are: scrapping with the Bulls, while at the same time keeping the Bobcats collective heads under water 'til them kittens don't breathe no more. Honestly, the Pistons, how do they stumble in first gear all season, lose players ('Sheed, Iverson in the past two months alone) and keep on rollin'? Gotta respect Joe Dumars and if the Bulls wanna make the playoffs an annual rite of spring then Paxson would do well to take notes when Joe D speaks.
In any case, if the season ended today, Chicago would be matching up with the Boston Celtics in the first round in what will assuredly be a much more competitive series than many think. Consider what Chicago has and what Boston has and tell me you're not compelled. Forget about the Truth for a minute and realize that the Bulls match up really well (okay, you have to squint your eyes a little bit) with the Celts. Gimpy KG will have his hands full with the four-armed, two-headed monster known as Tyrus/Noah. Derrick Rose is one of the few NBAers faster and stronger than the particle of light known as Rajon Rondo; plus the Bulls strange, but talented role players (Gordon, Salmons, Hinrich, Miller, et al) are all better players at both ends of the court than the Cs reserves. Time will tell, but, the Bulls no wanty the Orlando Magic, who would brain Chicago...badly and easily, with some sort of zombie Dwight Howard feasting on VDN's brains at half-court. [WTF!?-Ed.]
Meanwhile, there are still 5 regular season games to play and yes, the Bulls could magically lose all of them and not make the playoffs. So, yeah, New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Detroit and Toronto those are the teams the Bulls should be worried about for now.
