Sox drop series finale to Angels 3-1
After taking the first game of this series in convincing fashion the White Sox rolled onto victory in game two. They weren't able to pull off that elusive sweep, however. They have now won their last three series in a row, however, they always seem drop the last game of said series. Last night the Sox ran into a buzz saw in Jered Weaver.
Gavin Floyd matched Weaver all night long. Weaver was just that much better, however. He allowed only one run in eight innings of work. Floyd would pitch eight innings and surrendered three runs and that was all the Angels needed to beat the Southsiders. They were 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Weaver didn't give the Sox many opportunities in this one though. When the offense doesn't hit a home run they are 3-14. When they do hit home runs however they are 18-11. A big difference when they hit the long ball. If this team wants to be playing in October they are going have to find a way to manufacture runs without hitting home runs.
The Sox will be out Carlos Quentin until at least Monday after he re-injured his foot while running to first base in Monday's game. It might be time to put Quentin on the disabled list as this has been a reoccurring issue for him. If the treatments haven't helped him DLing him maybe the best and most logical thing for him.
With this loss the Sox drop to 21-25 and are five and a half back of first place. They have an off day today and are in Kansas City to take on the Royals Friday night. Clayton Richard (1-0) will take on Brian Bannister (4-1). Richard won his first game of the season last time out. He was part of the Peavy deal that fell through. Game time is 7:10 p.m. CT.
