Sox losing streak hits 5 in Canada
Ozzie Guillen returned for series finale in Toronto Monday only to see his team get swept by the red hot Blue Jays. The Sox were down 2-0 early, but came back on a two-run homer by Jim Thome in the top of the eighth. The bullpen would give the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning.
Sox reliever Octavio Dotel surrendered an RBI triple the to the Jays Alex Rios They lose 3-2 and drop their fifth straight. Ozzie Guillen has yet to go off, but if they continue down this path a Guillen rant will be soon to follow.
They have now lost 12 of their last 15 games dating back to the beginning of the month. Dome stadiums and AstroTurf seem to bring out the worst in the Southsiders. They have lost 10 in a row at the Rogers Centre dating back to 2007. It's their longest losing streak on the road since dropping 10 in a row to the Oakland A's from 2001-2003.
Chicago scored a total of eight runs in the four-game set and batted .080 2-for-23 with runners in scoring position. They were playing without Carlos Quentin who flew back home to Chicago to have treatment done on his ailing heel. It would behoove the White Sox to look into putting Quentin on the disabled list so he can heal up and avoid missing any more games in the future.
As expected Jermaine Dye received a two-game suspension after his helmet hit home plate umpire Mike DiMuro in the final game of the Cleveland series last Wednesday. Dye is appealing the suspension.
The Sox will look to rebound at home Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins. Mark Buehrle (5-1) will take on the Twins Scott Baker (1-4). Buehrle will try and get back in the win column after suffering his first loss of the season. He started the season off 5-0 for the first time since 2001. Game time is 7:11 p.m. The Sox sit at 15-22 and are five and a half games behind out first.
