White Sox lose in extras
The White Sox have now lost four in a row dating back to their series with the Texas Rangers. They lost 8-7 to the Kansas City Royals in extra innings last night. This is the second series in a row they've lost. They were without Jermaine Dye and Josh Fields since the weekend, both have been nursing bumps and bruises they've suffered over the against Texas. They did make their return to the lineup last evening and provided a much needed lift, however, it becomes a moot point in a loss.
Suspect starting pitching has been their undoing in this four game skid. Since Saturday Sox starters haven't gone longer than six innings. As a result the bullpen has been overworked. Just last night five relievers were used and on top of that they went into extras. There are going to be some tired arms in that pen if this trend continues.
Along with the defunct pitching the Sox have left an inordinate men on base as they left 13 men on base in last nights loss. They were 4-for-19 with runners in scoring position. During their four game skid they are 9-for-42 (.214 average) with runners in scoring position.
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is not a happy camper and could who blame him with his team under preforming. Guillen hasn't blown up yet, but if this current trend continues Mt. Ozzie might explode soon. Alexei Ramirez, who has been struggling, is feeling the Guillen's wrath. He has been benched tonight according to Comcast Sportsnet.
They will look for Mark Buerhle (4-0) to stop bleeding vs the Detroit Tigers Armando Galarraga (3-1). Game time is at 7:11 p.m. CT, weather permitting. The Sox are 12-14 and sit three and half games out of first place and are currently in fourth place. According to Whitesox.com the start time of tonights game has been pushed back to 8 p.m.
