Slaughter Win Western Division Championship; Advance to CIFL Championship

The Chicago Slaughter played their last game back on May 30, but you wouldn't know it by watching them. Despite being off for two weeks they showed no signs of rust. They beat the Wisconsin Wolfpack 63-19 in the Western Division Championship and they will now advance to the CIFL Championship. Donovan Morgan and Bobby Sippio picked up where they left off during the regular season. The two combined for five touchdown catches, 198-yards and 12 catches. After the game head Coach Steve "Mongo" McMichael spoke highly of his team after their victory over the Wolfpack. "These guys prepare themselves, you saw the execution, they are head and shoulders above the rest of the league because they come to practice and they work," he said. The Slaughter went undefeated during the regular season and they are now one win away from becoming league champions. "This is where we expected to be," said Quarterback Russ Michna, who was 16-for-24 with 264-yards. Michna had high praise for his wide receivers. "What can I say? These are two of the most talented guys I've ever been around," he said. "I've had pleasure of playing with them in the past and I can't say enough about them talent wise and skill wise." Michna wasn't the only one who had good things to say about the offensive talent on this team. Coach McMichael told Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo, "If you think Rashied Davis is better then my two wide receivers [Sippio] and [Morgan] maybe you ought to rethink your scouting department." He went to say that his QB Michna would be a nice third stringer to have. The only thing that didn't make the coach happy was the turnout. McMichael was disappointed, however, by the turn out for tonight's championship game. A crowd of 3,400 came out to see the Slaughter advance to the championship. It is unfortunate that the Sears Centre wasn't packed for this game. The people who did come out got to see a good football team put on a show. If you were a fan of the Chicago Rush or just a football fan in general, check out the Slaughter before the season ends because you won't be disappointed. The CIFL Championship will take place next Saturday June 27 at 7:05 p.m. They will take on the Fort Wayne Freedom. Tickets are still available. For more information call 847-310-3190.
