In Case Anyone Was Still Paying Attention...

Let's see... Bears kick off their new season with a REAL quarterback on Sunday...Air Jordan touches down in the Hall of Fame...Chicago's Olympic bid comes into the home stretch with some help from the White House.

Oh, yeah, baseball.

If you've forgotten that the White Sox and Cubs were still in action, don't feel bad. I don't think they been thinking too much about it either. Sure, both teams are making noise about "it's not over till it's over", but trust us, it's over. But if you MUST have some info on baseball in Chicago as it winds down...

The White Sox are still hemming and hawing about whether or not they'll try to get the rehabbing Jake Peavy a start before the book closes on the season, as if that matters anymore. Peavy, like most Sox fans, is ambivalent about whether or not he officially takes the mound for the White Sox this season. At only six games out of first and with the first and second-place Tigers and Twins stumbling and bumbling their way to the finish like, it's conceivable that the Sox could still have a shot, but they're doing some fine tripping of their own. Doesn't ANYBODY want this thing?

The Cubs, meanwhile, at 10.5 out of first in their division and 8.5 out in the wild card race. Sure they won their fourth straight game...over the likes of the Pirates and Reds. But even they're cashing in their chips, possibly shutting down Alfonso Soriano for the season. Heck, even some of the guys in the lockerroom have turned their attention to football like the rest of us. Well, some of us. Even with this steady slide toward yet another season without a championship, there are apparently still some folks who, when it comes to the Cubs, don't even find that to be a deterrent.
