Bulls Ship Tyrus To Charlotte

**UPDATE** Hey, Flip Murray and Acie Law are expiring contracts! Making this deal all the more sensible for the Bulls. Bulls are really getting serious about the 2010 free agency. Will it pay dividends come July?

Reports are trickling in from across the Internet that the Charlotte Bobcats and Chicago Bulls have a deal to send Tyrus Thomas to the Bobcats in exchange for guards Flip Murray and Acie Law as well as a future first-round draft choice. The Bulls have been shopping Tyrus for the better part of the past 18 months and were especially eager to ship him outta the Windy City following his closed door tirade to Vinny Del Negro a few Fridays ago. Still, trading away a talented (if not difficult) big like Tyrus to a team your competing with directly in the playoff chase? Not smart but definitely an indicator as to how urgently Chicago wanted to be rid of Tyrus.

Bobcats head coach Larry Brown has a rather well-earned reputation as something of a "killer of youthful enthusiasm" and his clashes with Allen Iverson are legend, still Brown has tempered himself and in recent seasons with the Bobcats he's been able to channel energy and focus out of some of the league's former wild childs: Stephen Jackson comes readily to mind. Tyrus could show up as an incredibly focussed player utterly capable of wrecking any opposing team's night. Well-played, Charlotte.

For the Bulls? The future draft pick is always useful and Murray and Law should provide some comic relief in blowouts. Ready the confetti-filled buckets and cue up "Sweet Georgia Brown." This was a deal to get rid of a problem and that's exactly what the Bulls did. Whatever they got in return was going to be a reward according to the team. But seriously, Murray and Law move from a crowded backcourt in Charlotte where Raymond Felton was king and could easily slide into successful roles backing up Derrick Rose. Also, if Kirk Hinrich gets traded before the deadline, bang! Murray or Law will be getting some lovely run time.

Acie Law can be a good backup to Derrick Rose if given the opportunity to show what he can do.

Seriously, someone just needs to give the boy a chance! Woodson and injuries never gave him the shot in Atlanta he deserved.

Sorta. He'll have to prove that he can score at will or play much better defense than Hinrich to some minutes... He's a gap-stop until the Bulls drop him after the season.

We'll see what he can do.
