The Weekend-What-To-Do
Tailgate's end of the week look at what's going on in and around in Chicago. Also, just as an f.y.i. Opening Day is less than three weeks away and today is officially the first day of spring no matter what odd, fluffy, white substance the sky is dropping upon us this morning.
The Blackhawks and Bulls are on the road
Not the McCarthy novel "The Road" but it might as well be an apocalyptic scenario for the Bulls considering how depleted by injury they are. They take on the 76ers in Philly a night after losing to the Cleveland LeBrons at the UC. This very well could be their 11th straight loss so tune in for the "Can't stop looking. Car. Crash." appeal. Things aren't quite as bleak for the bruised Blackhawks. They head to the desert to take on the Phoenix Coyotes and maybe visit the Chi Sox and Cubs in Tuscon?
Shamrock Shiver Shuffle is Sunday
One of Chicago's longest-running, running races, the Shamrock Shuffle 8K is Sunday. And, yes, in spite of the brutal forecast, race organizers are expecting their biggest race ever (36,000+ entrants, that's a lot of spandex, Dri-Fit and winter caps). The five miler winds thru the Loop with the start and finish at Grant Park. If you're headed downtown to cheer on a friend, bundle up and keep an eye out for Tailgate's own Brian Lauvray as he battles the frost and fury of Mother Nature.
"No Football makes Homer go something, something"
Going crazy from the withdrawal effects of no football in your life? Fret not, the Chicago Slaughter are hosting the Bloomington Extreme out in the 'burbs on Sunday. The Slaughter are 0-2 on the season and desperately need the win to right their ship. There's also free face painting and Slaughter temporary tattoos, the bad news? They're only for kids.
