Lack Of Offense Helps Pirates Sink Cubs

What has been an unsettling trend for the 2010 Cubs continued Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. A lack of clutch hitting or any kind of offense for that matter has continued to plague this team. While the left a minimal amount of runners on base, four to be exact. That can happen to any team, however, it is the fact that couldn't get anything going against Pirates starter Charlie Morton.

Morton came into Wednesday nights game 0-5 with an ERA of 12 plus. That is the worst part about this loss. The entire Pirates pitching staff's combined ERA is above six. The Cubs should've been all over Morton instead they managed to score two runs. They had Morton on the ropes in the fourth, but failed to deliver that one big blow.

Aramis Ramirez continued to struggle which prompted Cubs Skipper Lou Piniella to drop him to sixth in the lineup and move up the hot hitting Alfonso Soriano. The lineup changed produced less then stellar results. It's one thing to lose to good teams, but lose to a lowly Pittsburgh team is beyond belief. Sure Pittsburgh can win just like anyone else, but you look at the talent on the Cubs then you look at the talent on the Pirates and you wonder how does a team like the Cubs lose to them ?

If this anemic offense is going to have any kind of success this season Aramis Ramirez is going to have to get out of this dreadful slump. Now that doesn't mean they can't do it without him, but having him producing and putting up the Ramirez type numbers fans have come to expect can only help their chances of winning.

Hopefully the Cubs can salvage the last game of the series start a new winning streak beginning tonight. They wrap up this three game set against the Buc O's as Randy Wells (3-0 3.45 ) will take on Pirates starter Brian Burres (1-1 6.00). Game time is 6:05 p.m. CT and the game can be seen and heard on WGN TV and WGN Radio 720 AM.
