Cubs Shutout by White Sox, Lose 6-0

The Cubs lost yet again Friday afternoon to their intercity rivals. Jake Peavy made the Cubs look lost at the plate as the Sox rolled on to their 10th consecutive victory. However, the bigger story coming from this game was not the action on the field, but off it.

Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first. After recording the third out the inning Zambrano stormed into the Cubs dugout and became irate, screaming and making a scene. It would eventually lead to a shouting match between him and Derrek Lee.

While it was nowhere near the Barrett-Zambrano situation it was still ugly none the less. Lou Piniella and other Cubs coaches and players separated the two before it could get any worse, Z's day was over after this embarrassment.

Piniella would eventually send him home to avoid further incident. Which was probably for the better considering Zambrano's past temperament. After the game Cubs general manager Jim Hendry announced the indefinite suspension of Zambrano.

This was the last thing the Cubs needed. Cubs TV colorman Bob Brenly described this team during the game as "a dead-ass" team these past few weeks and perhaps someone show a little emotion was necessary, however Z went about all wrong. Yes, this team has looked like a bunch a zombies going through the motions, but showing up teammates and creating a scene isn't right and it shouldn't have happen.

Jim Hendry had every right to suspend Zambrano after his shenanigans. So much for Z being more mellow. It is surprising that he lasted this long before blowing up. The suspension will not be long term as the players union wont allow it. However, you have to believe after this latest blow-up Hendry will be looking to send Z on his way. The only thing that would prevent it from being a sure guarantee is he has a no-trade clause. The Zambrano-less Cubs will continue to the Crosstown Classic tomorrow evening.

Carlos Silva (8-2, 3.01 ERA) will take on "Sweaty" Freddy Garcia ( 8-3, 4.85 ERA). Silva has dropped his last two decisions and has been a victim of a lack of run support. While Garcia has been a pleasant surprise for the Southsiders, considering he was just expected to hold down the back end of the rotation, but out of the five Sox starters he has been the most consistent. Game time is at 6:05 p.m. CT. It will be National broadcast on FOX, but as always they will be on WGN Radio 720 AM.
