Sox Offense Comes Alive Against Tigers

SoxLogoSmall.jpegIt was a beautiful night for baseball, and though most of Chicago turned their focus elsewhere, the White Sox enjoyed every minute of it. They took control with seven runs in the fourth inning and finished off the Detroit Tigers with another seven in the eighth, winning 15-3 at U.S. Cellular Field.

It was a laugher, a relief, a breath of fresh air for a Sox team that hasn't seen .500 since the first week of the season. Just about everything went right: Backups Ramon Castro and Brent Lillibridge punctuated the big innings with three-run homers; ageless slap hitter Omar Vizquel, slated for a leave of absence for family reasons, went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs; and Gordon Beckham chased Tigers starter Rick Porcello with a fourth-inning double, his first extra-base hit since April.

With resurgent veteran Freddy Garcia on the hill, the Sox had little problem keeping Detroit at arm's length. Now, for their next trick -- let's see how they do in Thursday's series finale, with an opportunity for a rare series victory and the Cubs on the horizon this weekend.
