Cubs Colvin Pierced By Bat

From the "Don't See That Every Day" department: Tyler Colvin- outfielder, rookie, vampire? was impaled by the shattered (maple) bat of Wellington Castillo. Colvin suffered a partially collapsed lung and a rather deep stab wound as a result of the wooden shrapnel in one of the more surreal moments baseball fans would ever see at the ball park. Of course, the game was in Miami so literally dozens of fans actually witnessed the gruesome incident.

How can the Marlins brass NOT take advantage of this opportunity? "If two World Series aren't enough to get you in here, maybe the impalements will."

Brian L. / September 20, 2010 10:37 AM

Heh. I really hope somebody in their marketing department got fired that one. "Come for the constant no-hitters and World Series titles, stay for the vampire slaying."

Dan / September 20, 2010 11:08 AM

The guy suffered a collapsed lung and the end of his season / potentially his career. But, hey, at least you guys can laugh about it. Any vampire-related puns you wanna throw out there while he's still in the hospital?

Brian L. / September 20, 2010 11:44 AM

Loosen up, guy.

Rick Abplanalp / September 20, 2010 2:10 PM

Dan, I am glad you asked. Here are some more:

Hey, this current win streak really RAISES THE STAKES for Mike Quade.

Losing Colvin from the lineup really DEFANGS the offense a little.

Boy, the Cubs sure do SUCK.

Dan / September 20, 2010 2:50 PM

I just think it's in shitty taste, especially since he's still in the hospital in serious condition. A season ending injury for a rookie like him could be a career ender. But, hey, I don't have to read your writing, and I can just steer clear everytime I see your by-line.

Brian L. / September 20, 2010 4:48 PM

I think you really need to relax. Colvin's going to be fine. He'll be released from the hospital in a few days and, geez, it's a joke on a blog.
