Uproar on the Lakeshore Recap: Day 2

championship ad

Another day, another derby bout. The pressure was on high on Saturday at the UIC Pavilion, as the Uproar on the Lakeshore 2010 national roller derby championships saw teams whittled down to a select few.

The day kicked off with NYC's Gotham Girls walloping the Texas Rollergirls 151-52. Next up were the heated battle between Charm City Roller Girls and the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls. It was an even match until the half, when RMRG quickly pulled ahead and gained a 40-point lead. Plenty of penalties kept Charm in the box for much of the game, which led to their downfall. In the end, RMRG won the bout 165-103.

At the onset of the third game, Philly and Kansas City also appeared to be fairly equally matched, with Philly making brief pulls ahead. An amazing 20-point jam by Kansas City's Kelley Young closed up the spread, but by the end of the bout, Kansas was visibly tired. Eventually, Philly took the advantage and closed up the game with a win 147-126.

And then it was time for Chicago's own Windy City All-Stars to take their places on the track alongside Olympia's Oly Rollers. The audience went wild for the home team, and Windy City opened with strong skating and agile jamming. It all went downhill, though, as Oly's Blockers gave Windy City's Jammers a helluva time as they tried to bust through the pack. The All-Stars have always prided themselves on maintaining a fast pack, making opposing teams hustle to catch up, but Oly simply upped the ante by skating even faster. The result was a lot of penalties incurred by Windy City, who literally lost their footing. In the end, Oly showed everyone who was boss of that bout, as they took the game 178-76.

Up next: Today, the remaining teams hard to determine who's the best in the nation. At 2 p.m., Philly and Gotham battle for 4th and 3rd places. At 4 p.m., it'll be an exciting bout between the quick and methodical Oly Rollers and the aggressive Rocky Mountain Roller Girls. Check in with Derby News Network for live coverage.
