Pelotons, Echelons Feature at Upcoming Women's Cycling Clinic
This Thursday, April 14 and Sunday, April 17, Half Acre Cycling is hosting a two-part intro to road racing clinic for women cyclists new to the sport. The instruction will come from experienced, accomplished cyclist Kristen Meshberg and coach Greg Meeker, who will go over the nuances of riding in a pack at speed, how to corner effectively and safely, and how to maneuver through a peloton.
Road racing can be a tricky and dangerous sport, but with education comes understanding, and knowing how to ride well is the foundation to riding and racing safely.
The Thursday portion is a "pre-clinic" geared more for novices. Hosted at Johnny Sprocket's (3001 N. Broadway) from 7-9 p.m., the pre-clinic will be led by Kristin Meshberg, who has a long history of racing to great success.
Sunday's event will begin with classroom instruction at Roosevelt University (430 S. Michigan Ave.) from 10 a.m. to noon. Then the program will move over to Northerly Island for on-bike instruction.
The cost of the clinic is $20 for USAC license holders, $25 for those without. Consider that money well-spent if one plans to wage an effective road and criterium race campaign this year.
