The Ballad of Soxtown
Puttering along through what looks like another unremarkable season, the Cubs at least have more wins than the White Sox. But Sun-Times columnist Joe Cowley hasn't abandoned his vision of a Chicago united under the Sox banner.
Today on Twitter, he tells of a dream:
When will Cubbie fan admit the revolution has started? First with ur kids, who now shake their heads in shame when u put ur Cubbie hat on. ...Soon, you will find yourself getting in ur car and driving South. You won't know why, but u will feel the need for better baseball. ...
Then you will try on the black jersey, feeling good how black makes you look thinner. ...
You will see an organization that says what it wants and does what it wants, and you will be drawn to it. ...
You will realize that an underachieving Sox team is still way more interesting than the expected mediocrity you used to scream for. ...
Then you will feel like your new home is the one you wanted all along. The revolution is here - #soxtown
The man has a point. Say what you like about Jerry Reinsdorf's "All In" strategy, but at least it's an ethos.
