Hawks Look for a Win Against Coyotes
The Blackhawks begin a two-game road trip tonight in Phoenix where they take on the Coyotes at 9 p.m., and then head to Colorado to face the Avalanche on Thursday. The Hawks and Coyotes have the same 2-1-1 record.
In addition to coming off a tough loss in a shootout, the Hawks are also hoping to see Marian Hossa back on the ice against the Coyotes. The team won't know until close to puck-drop whether the winger will hit the ice. Hossa has been out of the lineup and hasn't skated for four days due to an upper body injury.
The Hawks are looking for a successful road trip after losing on Saturday to their Original Six opponent the Boston Bruins at the United Center. While they may have lost the game in a shootout, the forcefulness they began the game with fizzled out in the third period and the Hawks lost 3-2.
Losing their intensity in the third gave the Bruins the opportunity to score at 7:56 in the third when Nathan Horton shot one past Corey Crawford from the left circle. Crawford faced 24 shots collectively in the second, third and overtime before eventually giving up the shootout goal to Tyler Seguin.
Both goalies, Crawford and Tim Thomas, had impeccable saves throughout the night but Thomas outplayed Crawford as an impenetrable force, giving up only two goals and having 27 saves, while Crawford gave up three goals and had 35 saves.
