Sylvia Fowles Debuts in ESPN Mag's Body Issue

ESPN The Magazine

Announced last week as the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles is making headlines for a different reason with her inaugural appearance in ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue. The 26-year-old all-star joins Blake Griffin, Jose Reyes, Hope Solo and two dozen other pro athletes who posed nude (with everything strategically covered up).

Stripping down for a desert photo shoot was a new experience for Fowles, but she told ESPN she's eager to show the sports world that women's basketball has sex appeal. "It's not just about the baggy shorts."

(Ed's note: I think SI Swimsuit Issue model Lauren Jackson, 2010 ESPN Body Issue cover girl Diana Taurasi and others got that point across already.)

Fowles added:

Growing up, I was mad skinny, and I never thought I was proportional. Back then kids used to call me Slim Jim, She Woman, Green Giant and even Shaq. When they said those things, I'd get upset and want to fight. But as I got older, I began to better understand who and what I am.

[snip]

You'll think I'm cocky, but I'm totally infatuated with my legs now. They are just big, healthy and toned. My mom tells me I have a problem. She thinks I like my body too much because I'm always walking around in little shorts and a sports bra at home. But if you see my mom you'd know where the confidence comes from: She's got big hips, a big booty and a small waist. She thinks she is the sexiest thing ever!
