As The Bulls Turn: The Night Memphis Was Terrible

Editor: "You want to write about the Bulls this year?"
Me: "[muffled laughter] There's a lockout, there's no season!"
Editor: "The lockout ended over a month ago, the Bulls lost a fluky game to Golden State on the second day of a back-to-back."
Me: "The Warriors?"
Editor: "Yeah, Mark Jackson has the Dubs sipping the Play Defense Cherrytacular Kool-Aid and the Bulls decided to go off the cuff and play improv and frolic, Thibs wasn't amused, you gonna write or what?"
Me: "Yes, I shall writerly writerly write."

So that's how I got back into the holiday spirit of giving (average NBA analysis) to you, the Tailgate readers. Thank me later, kids.

Nota Bene: I have to drive halfway across Ammurica this week so I'll, unfortunately, be missing most of the Bulls games this week. Sorry, I'm still in training camp, I promise I'll have a piece dedicated to the awesome that is Noah, ala this cherry, by mid-February.

In any case, the Bulls thoroughly dismantled the Grizzlies of Memphis last night.

Not to be too dismissive of a 40-point victory, but it still counts as only one win. The Grizzles had an awful night shooting (we see you hiding behind Rudy Gay, Pargo.) And yes, Gay and Pargo shot a combined 4-25 from the field, "Gross!" and Memphis hit one trey on the night, so, yeah. More shots will fall on other nights, Grizzlies. Maybe not enough to make up a differential of forty, but Memphis is good enough, on most nights, to give the Bulls a contest. Not last night, but this is a Memphis team that was one game from a berth in the Western Conference Finals last spring. Feeding Gasol and Z-Bo a bit more to get a Portland Lite (LaMarcus and Crash, you see) vibe going, get the Bulls bigs in foul trouble, different game, but not last night.

In any case, yeah, blowout win for Bulls. Good, by no means "great," defensive effort, Grizzlies missed those shots, Bulls did not make them miss those shots. Derrick Rose got to the line for eight free points, six dimes, two blocks, two steals, et cetera for Mr. MVP.

Bulls play tomorrow night against the Atlanta Hawks at the United Center. This is a game I really will try to watch, but since I'll be in Columbus, Ohio, I probably won't get to. Argh. In any case, it should be a good one. ATL is busting skulls, Bulls are busting skulls, I really enjoyed the Eastern semis series between these two teams last spring, blah, blah.
