As The Bulls Turn: ASG WKND Blitzkrieg/Deng's Daring Fashion Statment
First things first, BIG ups to Chicago's Luol Deng. First timer at the ASG and Deng's not sweating about getting to Magic Kingdom, he's rockin the threads for his continent and his home nation (Sudan, duh!). Astute observer of things/writer on the Internet, Ricky O'Donnell, deftly points out that Deng may face a fine from Kommisar Stern's office, but, you gotta believe that'll be the happiest [X amount of money] Deng writes a check out for.
Speaking of fines, will we be seeing a fine doled out to Chicago's own Dwyane Wade for breaking the Mamba's nose? I'm not a seer (that's not what I went to school for), but I would be sorta surprised if Wade isn't fined (but not suspended).
It's a sticky situation for the league offices, really. Two very high profile superstars, exhibition game, a foul, that in Wade's own words, was "hard," it really begs for some action, but at the same time, a fine gives the story more legs and Stern likely wants this forgotten. Granted, Kobe has the busted schnozz (and mild concussion) now (and who isn't really hoping for him to be rocking a Laimbeer on Wednesday night against the T-Wolves.)
In any case, that was sort of a goofy digression/me rambling about a wonky issue. You're wondering, "BRIAN! How did Derrick Rose and Luol Deng do?" Well, they had a lot of fun, guys. Derrick got paid by Adidas on Friday afternoon. But beyond that, the weekend was a little anti-climactic for our Second City basketball heros. Tom Thibodeau made certain to give his stars plenty of R & R on the bench at Amway. The game itself was a real doozy, with the West winning 152-149, but you were probably busy watching the Oscars or something.
The Bulls are back home tomorrow night against the New Orleans Hornets.
