Thompson is a Name to Remember for Sox Fans
Sox fans, get used to the name Trayce Thompson. He might be in the everyday lineup in a few years.
Thompson was drafted in the second round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He is the son of former Los Angeles Lakers center Mychal Thompson and the brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.
In a short time, Thompson has gone from Class A to AAA. He led the Carolina League with 90 RBIs and was tied for the league lead with 22 home runs before he was promoted.
He gets high marks from the blog Future Sox:
He's a plus athlete and a veritable tool shed with possibly the highest ceiling of any position player in the system. He is slowly translating those tools into baseball skills. Defensively, he can handle centerfield at this point and has good arm strength and speed, but is likely destined for a corner if he makes the majors. 2011 saw him improve in almost every aspect of his offensive game over the previous year, hitting 24 HR in 519 AB and upping his average, OBP and slugging.
A blog about West Carolina baseball says this about Trayce Thompson:
Also plays an intelligent center field. Covers the field from gap to gap. Long strides with a smooth approach to fly balls. Average arm strength, but still raw defensive talent at this point. One opportunity caught sacrifice fly at the wall (approximately 370 feet) set his feet and delivered a one hop throw to home plate. As he continues to gain experience and strength delivery from outfield should improve. Needs to get ball down and more on a line.An athlete that has an obvious passion and drive to improve. A lot of upside and with continued development a solid center field prospect for the White Sox organization. Should be a starter at the major league level.
Even though every baseball expert says that the Sox have the worst minor-league system in MLB, Sox fans have something to look forward to in the coming years.
