Fury Beat Manic Attackers, Win WCR Home Opener Tourney

It's only fitting that the Manic Attackers and the Fury were the two teams to reach the finals of Saturday's Windy City Rollers season-opening tournament.

In June, the Manics, now captained by the hard-hitting Bork Bork Bork and Ruth Enasia, beat the Fury to win the Ivy King Cup and become the 2012 home season champions. But on Saturday, the Fury, in a bout that was not decided until the final jam, beat the Manics 79-69.

Saturday's tournament was round-robin style, and bouts were only 30 minutes with no intermission, instead of the usual length of two 30-minute periods.

SCS_1032-20130126-_15.jpgThe Fury started the bout strong, with captain Ska Face scoring 8 points to put the Fury up 8-3 after one jam. But in jam 2, Zoe Trocious scored 18 for the Manics, while Billie Mean King scored 8 for the Fury, to give the Manics a 21-16 lead. Two jams later, the Fury would recapture the lead.

Though the Fury held onto the lead for most of the bout, the Manics remained a thorn in their side, getting the score as close at 69-64 with three minutes left in the game. But a solid jam by KonichiWOW put the Fury up 79-65 with 1:45 left to play.

But even then, the Manics weren't about to lay down. In the second-to-last jam, Zoe Trocious got lead jammer for the Manics and scored a quick four points to bring the score to 79-69 with 32 seconds left. But KonichiWOW took lead jammer and when the game clock expired, called off the jam and sealed the win for the Fury.

In the consolation bout, the Double Crossers beat the Hell's Belles 81-74.
