Red Line Reconstruction Not Stopping the White Sox

Sox_200.pngHow many times have you heard this? "Oh man, sucks this year for the Sox. With the Red Line shut down, no one can get to the stadium by L!"

WRONG!!!

Yes, the Red Line is being revamped starting May 19, and the stations on the Dan Ryan Expressway will not be accessible. It's very unfortunate, because the Sox-35th stop was only 0.2 miles away from Sox Park.

Now you'll have to walk 0.4 miles to get to the stadium.

The Red Line is operating this summer, and instead of going between the Dan Ryan, it will run on Green Line tracks above ground on the South Side. To get to US Cellular field, get off at the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stop. The station is only a few blocks east of Sox-35th. The walking distance between the two stations is probably a fraction of what a walk down the ramps at the Cell is. No biggie.

If you're coming from the north on the L, you can continue to take the Red Line straight to the park. If you are coming from the south, go to a Green Line station (many shuttle busses from closed Red Line stops will run 24 hours) and take either the Red or Green Line to the park. You can also drive to the Ashland Green Line station and park there, and then take the train.

Do not let the Red Line South Reconstruction Project stop you from seeing the Sox in person this season. And c'mon, the Sox lowered some ticket prices this year. Make the trip to see the Sox this season. It will be worth a minor inconvenience.
