Fury Win, Secure Top Seed in Ivy King Cup Playoffs
With less than two weeks before this year's Ivy King Cup playoffs, Windy City Rollers home team The Fury secured the top seed with a 227-112 win over the Double Crossers on Saturday.
With Saturday's win, The Fury finished the home season 3-0, while the Double Crossers finished 0-3.
The Double Crossers drew first blood Saturday when Killa Nois took the first lead jammer spot of the game. Though The Fury's blockers kept her to only three points, the Double Crossers managed to keep Fury Jammer Ska Face from scoring at all.
The score remained close until jam 19, when Ska Face gave The Fury an 86-62 lead with less than three minutes to play in the first half. The Fury took a 105-62 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all Fury. By the time there was only 5:28 to play in the bout, The Fury had only allowed the Double Crossers 36 points, but had added 107 points of their own for a 212-98 lead and won 227-112 a short time later.
With an 0-3 record, the Double Crossers finished the home season in 4th place.
Also facing off Saturday night were last year's Ivy King Cup champions, the Manic Attackers, and the Hell's Belles.
The Manics started strong, jumping out to a 51-6 lead with 15:34 left in the first half. But the Belles, thanks in part to very strong jamming by Zombea Arthur, Unicoroner and Monica Lewhipsky, got the Manics' lead down to only 16 points, 55-39, with 4:35 to play in the first half.
The Manic Attackers took a 63-43 lead into halftime and started the second half playing like they had something to prove. After only 8 minutes and 40 seconds had passed in the second half, the Manics had added 44 points to their total and allowed the Belles only two, which gave them a 107-45 lead.
Those two points would be the only points scored by the Hell's Belles for the first 11:30 of the second half.
The Manics' jammers, including player of the game Zoe Trocious, seemed to find every hole in the Belles' defense. With only 5:30 left to play, the Manics' lead was over 100 points.
The Manic Attackers won the bout 168-76 to finish the season with a 2-1 record, which was good enough for 2nd place in the home standings. The Hell's Belles finished the home season in 3rd place with a 1-2 record.
The Ivy King Cup playoffs begin Saturday, May 4.
