Outfit Qualifies for WFTDA Div. 1 Playoffs
The Syndicate, the A-team of the Chicago Outfit, has qualified for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 1 playoffs, the league announced Monday.
"The Syndicate has worked especially hard for this opportunity this year," Cheryl Runge LoVerde (also known by her derby name, "Helsa Wayton"), who skates for the Syndicate and serves as the league's general manager, said in a news release. "Amidst a season plagued with player turnover and hitting the reset button many times to get our relatively fresh team to finally gel, we are thrilled and proud to qualify as a Division 1 team in 2013 and excited about the opportunity to meet and play 2013's best D1 teams at playoffs."
WFTDA Division 1 playoffs are Sept. 27-29 in Salem, Ore. According to the release, the Syndicate is ranked 9th out of 10 teams. The top-seeded team in the division is the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls of San Francisco and the division also features two teams from outside the United States - Toronto Roller Derby (ranked 10th) and the 8th-ranked Victoria Roller Derby League of Melbourne, Australia.
