Hell's Belles Beat Double Crossers; Fury Beat Manics
The Hell's Belles moved into sole possession of first place Saturday when they beat the Double Crossers in the second bout of the 2014 Windy City Rollers home season.
The Double Crossers kept it close through most of the first half, but the Belles picked up steam heading into intermission. Both teams started off the second half slowly, but soon, the Belles started to pull away. Hard blocking by the Belles and strong jamming from Bloody Elle and player of the game Killjoy gave the Belles a 225-119 win.
In the other bout of the evening, last year's Ivy King Cup champions The Fury beat IKC runner up the Manic Attackers 178-153.
The Manics jumped out to an early 31-4 lead. But in the 18th jam of the first half, The Fury's Ska Face, in her first game back since having a baby, got a power jam and scored 34 to bring The Fury within 6 points. The Manics' lead was only 3, 90-87, at the half.
The Fury grabbed the lead when Ska Face scored nine in the first jam of the second half. But the Manics quickly retook the lead and were ahead 141-128 with only 8:20 left in the game.
The Fury didn't get the lead back until jam 21. Fury blockers Poppy Spock and Flo Rider put up a solid wall to keep Manics jammer Mo Vengence from scoring. At the same time, Fury jammer Pish Posh put The Fury up 154-146 with only 3:35 left.
The Fury held on and got the 178-153 win. The victory puts The Fury in a tie for second place with the Double Crossers, with both teams at 1-1. The loss puts the Manics at the bottom of the standings with an 0-2 record.
