The Art and Appetite exhibit explores interpretations of eating in America, from celebrations to critiques. The exhibit is held at the Art Institute of Chicago, 111 S. Michigan Ave., and located in the museum's Regenstein Hall. Admission to the Art Institute is $17 for students and seniors and $23 for adults. Children under the age of 14 are admitted for free. The museum opens every day at 10:30am, with the exhibit running until Jan. 27.
The Vintage Bazaar, a traveling flea market, is making a stop today at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. The market runs from 11am to 5pm. $5 cover charge for anyone 21+, free for kids accompanied by a parent/guardian.
The National Theatre of London presents an encore screening of Frankenstein, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, at the Music Box, 3733 N. Southport Ave., today at noon. Tickets are $15
The 13th annual Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, aka Sketchfest, runs Jan. 9-19 at Stage773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. Tonight's schedule includes nearly three dozen shows on four stages, beginning at 2pm. Tickets are $14 per show or $57 for a day pass (or $150 for an all-festival pass) and are available online, at the box office or by calling 773-327-5252.
Young adult author Ransom Riggs reads from and signs his latest, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, at Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., today at 2pm. Free.
Diarrhea Planet plays a free all-ages show at saki, 3716 W. Fullerton Ave., today at 4pm, before their show with Yuck at Lincoln Hall tonight. Free, but space is clearly limited; first come, first served. All ages.
Lifeline Theatre's 17th annual Fillet of Solo Festival of solo performances and storytelling runs Jan. 3-19. Performances are held at the Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., and the Heartland Studio Theatre, 7016 N. Glenwood Ave. Tickets are $10 per show, or $30 for a festival pass, and are available online or at the Lifeline box office.
