Chicago's 177th Birthday Party @ Daley Plaza

The City of Chicago and Goose Island Beer are throwing a Mardi Gras-themed birthday party and food truck rally today to celebrate Chicago's 177th birthday on Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington St.). Starting with a short program at 10:30am to kick-off the event, free cake will be available (while supplies last) along with packzis, music and much more from 11am to 7pm. Free.

CJ Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band @ FitzGerald's

CJ Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band plays a Mardi Gras show at FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, tonight, with Roy Rubinstein's Chicago Hot 6 opening. Doors open at 5pm, show starts at 5:30pm. Tickets are $20 in advance or at the door. 21+

Awful Nice @ Midwest International Film Festival

The Midwest International Film Festival presents the comedy Awful Nice tonight at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark St. Director Todd Sklar will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. Cocktail reception begins at 6pm; the film starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10, or $15 for premium reserved seating.

Tuesday Funk @ Hopleaf

Gapers Block presents a special Mardi Gras edition of Tuesday Funk tonight in the upstairs bar at Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark St., Chicago. While we won't have any floats, we will have readings by Wendy McClure, Joe O'Sullivan, Naomi Buck Palagi, Laura Adamczyk and Eden Robins. Eden also co-hosts with with your hosts Andrew Huff. Doors open at 7pm sharp, no earlier -- arrive early for a table and grab a beer from Mark at the bar. Show starts at 7:30pm. As always, admission is free, but you must be 21 or older.

"Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" @ Adler Planetarium

Fox and National Geographic present a preview screening of "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" and live global Q&A with host Neil deGrasse Tyson and the producers at the Adler Planetarium, 1300 S. Lake Shore Dr., tonight at 8pm. Attendance is free and on a first-come, first-served basis; RSVP here.
