The Chi-Town Jazz Festival runs March 6-11 at venues around the city. Tonight's kickoff is at Andy's Jazz Club, 11 E. Hubbard St., and features the Tom Matta Big Band, Eric Schneider Quartet, the Xavier Breaker Coalition, and Andy Brown Quartet. The show starts at 5:30pm. $15 minimum donation at the door; proceeds benefit Catholic Charities. 21+
The Peace on Earth Film Festival runs March 6-9 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., and features films about peace, nonviolence, social justice and ecology. The festival runs from 6 to 11pm tonight; see the schedule for films and times. Free.
Austin's White Denim play the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., tonight with the Districts opening. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 day-of. Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:30pm. 18 and over.
Story Club is back at the Holiday Club, 4000 N. Sheridan tonight at 8pm tonight. The theme this month is, "What I Should Have Said" and will feature stories from Tamale Sepp and Lawrence Binkey Tolefree. This show also hosts an excellent open mic and the sign up for that begins at 7:30pm. $10 suggested donation. 21+
CHIRP Radio puts together a quartet of indie-pop-leaning, largely lady-powered bands to benefit the independent, internet-based (for now) station. The acts: Careful Q, The Symposium, One Wing Low, and Me Jane. Doors at 7:30pm, show at 8pm. $10.
