Festa Italiana

Chicago Festa Italiana runs Aug. 14-17 on Taylor Street between Ashland and Racine. Enjoy music on three stages, sample (mostly) Italian foods from Little Italy restaurants and vendors, and enjoy the neighborhood festival atmosphere. The fest is open from 5pm to 11pm today. $5 suggested donation.

From Good Stock Dinner Series with Gabriel Freeman @ Land and Sea Dept

Gabriel Freeman (formerly of Ruxbin and Mott St.) creates a three-course meal tonight at the Land and Sea Dept (3124 W. Carroll) as part of the From Good Stock dinner series. Tickets $75; beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) included. Event runs 6:30-10pm.

Daryl Brown @ City Lit Books

Daryl Brown, the son of James Brown, comes to Chicago to promote his new book, My Father, the Godfather, tonight at 6:30pm at City Lit Books, 2523 N. Kedzie. Preview in Book Club.

Los Lonely Boys @ Thalia Hall

Austin's Los Lonely Boys play Thalia Hall, 1807 S. Allport Ave., tonight, with Dos Santos opening. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $30 for balcony seats. Doors open at 6:30pm, show's at 8pm. All ages.

Sound Opinions End of Summer BBQ

What better way to celebrate the end of this wonderful season than stuffing your face with good food and drink? Tonight's Sound Opinions End of Summer BBQ (Navy Pier Terrace, 7pm) pairs eats from from choice places (The Butcher and Larder, Smoque BBQ, Bang Bang Pie Shop and Black Dog Gelato) and drinks from Virtue Cider, Goose Island Beer & Tenuta Santomè to help you cope (vegetarian options available, too). Event also conveniently includes the weekly Navy Pier fireworks show.

The Blisters @ Schubas

Spencer Tweedy takes a break from touring with his dad to play a show with his own band, The Blisters, tonight at Schubas, 3159 N. Damen Ave. New Leverage opens. Tickets are $10. Doors are at 7:30pm. All ages.

Aloft Circus Arts Presents Dinner of Our Discontent @ Chopin Theatre

Circus and theater converge with Aloft's production, Dinner of Our Discontent at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St. Directed and conceptualized by Aloft artistic director Shayna Swanson, "Dinner" follows five estranged sisters as they return to the home they grew up in after their parents' sudden deaths. Aloft is a Chicago-based physical performance company dedicated to telling original stories through world-class circus arts. Show runs August 14-24, show times: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 7pm. Tickets are $25 and available at Brown Paper Tickets.
