Taste Talks Kicks Off in Chicago

Starting tonight until Sunday, the second annual Taste Talks, launched last year in Brooklyn, makes its debut in Chicago, bringing together chefs and mixologists in an innovative and experiential three-day food symposium. Presented by Mario Batali and curated by James Beard Award-winning chef Paul Kahan, Taste Talks will provide access to chef panels, tastings and behind the scenes tips. Cornelia Arts Building holds its monthly Open Studios night tonight from 6 to 10pm. Visit artists' studios and see artwork from more than 40 artists, plus special hallway guest artist exhibitions, complimentary refreshments, live jazz music by the Swingline Quintet, and a food truck.

Fantasy Zone: K-9 ISLAND Opening Reception @ Hidden Dog

Tonight from 6 to 10pm, Hidden Dog, 2151 W. 21st St., hosts an opening reception for Fantasy Zone: K-9 ISLAND, a show that focuses on the relationship between abstraction and figuration. Artists Karolina Gnatowski, Sharmila Banerjee and Andrew Holmquist are featured in the show, and their work aims to create a conversation between the abstract and figurative aesthetics of their art. The exhibition will be on view until Oct. 24.

Friends of the Craft @ St. Matthias

St. Matthias Parish hosts Friends of the Craft, a microbrew tasting event featuring 14 local breweries, tonight from 7 to 10pm at St. Matthias School Hall, 4910 N. Claremont Ave., Tickets are $40 till Sept. 30, $45 after. Get tickets for both Friends of the Craft and Friends of the Grape on Oct. 5 for $75.

Ravenswood ArtWalk Opening Reception

The 13th annual Ravenswood ArtWalk Tour of Arts & Industry runs Oct. 3-5 along the Ravenswood corridor between Irving Park Road and Lawrence Avenue. Tonight's opening reception runs from 7:30 to 10:30pm at the Ravenswood Events Center, 4025 N. Ravenswood. $10 admission gets you in for local craft beer, wine and food, plus a raffle and live performances by the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra and the Amaranth belly dance troupe. A photo exhibit from Heartland Alliance will also be on view.

American Ballet Theatre @ Auditorium

The American Ballet Theatre performs Oct. 3-5 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy. Tonight's performance is at 7:30pm. Tickets are $34-129.

Mud Queens @ Reggies

The Mud Queens of Chicago bring their female mud wrestling show back to Reggies, 2105 S. State St., tonight at 7:30pm. The Dripping Slits play live. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. VIP seating in the balcony above the ring is available for $30. 17+

Via Festival

The Via Festival runs Oct. 1-4 in various locations in Chicago, most of them secret. Tonight's secret show features Cakes Da Killa, MikeQ, Juketastrophe and the Street Beat DJs, and gets started at 8pm; ticket holders find out the locale day-of. Tickets are $15. In addition, there's a show at Primary, 5 W. Division St., at 10pm, featuring L-Vis 1990, Traxman, Blue Hawaii (DJ set), Equator Club and Kreuger. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. You can also get a get a festival pass for $55. Both shows are 21+

FitzGerald's Oktoberfest

FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, hosts its annual Oktoberfest tonight, featuring Big Sandy and His Fly Rite Boys, the Red Elvises and Kory Quinn. Doors open at 8pm, show's at 89pm. Tickets are $15. 21+

Bloodshot Records' 20th Anniversary @ Mayne Stage

"Don't Roll Those Bloodshot Eyes at Me": Bloodshot Records' 20th Anniversary Rhythm & Roots Ruckus is tonight at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse Ave., featuring JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound and Barrence Whitfield and the Savages. Tickets are $25. Doors open at 8pm, show's at 9pm. 18+
