Green Festival @ Navy Pier

The Green Festival swings through Chicago Oct. 24-26 on Navy Pier. Attend panels and workshops on green living topics, browse the exhibit hall, and maybe even adopt a cat or dog. The festival opens at noon and runs till 6pm today. Tickets are $15 per day, $25 for a weekend pass or $30 for all three days; buy them online and save $5.

Sketchbook Swap Exhibition @ Jupiter Outpost

Arts of Life hosts an reception for its Sketchbook Swap exhibition tonight from 5 to 8pm at Jupiter Outpost, 1139 W. Fulton Market. In the project, each of the Chicago artists paired up with an artist from the North Shore Studio and sent a sketchbook back and forth, sharing their work and stories of art making. Check out the results and meet some of the artists. Free.

Opening Reception @ Aspect / Ratio

Aspect/Ratio is a contemporary art gallery that exhibits upcoming video artists. Located on 119 N. Peoria St. #3D, the gallery will have their opening reception for A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose this evening from 5 to 8pm. That's right, the fabulous line from Gertrude Stein's 1913 poem, Sacred Emily, is the title for the current exhibition. Through exploration of identity and meaning, Marcos Balter, Edmund Chia, Rebekah Heller and Casilda Sánchez present their works through video and performance in the space. The show will be up until Nov. 29. Free.

The City Lost & Found @ Art Institute

Opening tonight from 6 to 8pm, The Art Institute of Chicago is presenting The City Lost & Found, a series of photographs and works capturing New York, Chicago and Los Angeles from 1960-1980. The exhibition will be on view until Jan. 11. The opening reception requests an RSVP which can be done at jvilla2@artic.edu or 312-443-3631. Enter through the Modern Wing at 159 E. Monroe St. for this event.

Opening Reception: Andrew Barco & Eddie Breitweiser @ ThreeWalls

ThreeWalls, 119 N. Peoria St., Suite 2C, is hosting an opening reception of the work by Andrew Barco and Eddie Breitweiser this evening from 6 to 9pm. Barco's work, large-scale kinetic sculptures, in comparison to Breitweiser's, LED's and symphony of light are both meditative and conversational. The opening is free and open to the public.

53rd Ward: After Dark @ Hideout

Schadenfreude brings Ald. Ed Bus out to the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight at 6:30pm for 53rd Ward: After Dark, the alderman's own talk and variety show. Tickets are $10. 21+

Englewood International Film Festival

The Englewood International Film Festival runs Oct. 23-26, primarily at the Chatham 14 Theaters, 210 W. 87th St. Tonight's red carpet opening begins at 6:30pm and features the William Cochran film Englewood and shorts The Painter and EXO. Tickets are $25; individual screenings are $8 or $40 for a festival pass.

Project Recall: HCL @ Mana Contemporary

Utilizing sound and visual components, Project Recall aims to achieve a sense of nostalgia, memory and perception through a set of three live performances at High Concept Laboratories. HCL has a beautiful studio space on the fourth floor of Mana Contemporary, 2233 S. Throop St. The artists include Anthony Janas /Amanda Gutierrez, Nick Briz, The Fortieth Day + Noise Crush. Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8 and goes on until 10pm. $5 admission.

The Atlas Moth @ Beat Kitchen

The Atlas Moth rock the Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont Ave. tonight with The Proselyte, Zebras and Starless in support. Doors are at 8pm, show's at 8:30. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door. 21+

Psychemagik @ Smart Bar

Psychemagik's music is all over the place - from thumping disco to chillwave to straight-up house bangers. The UK duo, after too long buried by a major label, is finally breaking out and they'll bring their cornucopia of electronic music to Smart Bar, 3730 N. Clark St., for a headlining gig. The show's $12 in advance, $14 before midnight, $16 after midnight, 21+ and starts at 10pm with Nate Manic and Greg K opening.
