Englewood International Film Festival

The Englewood International Film Festival runs Oct. 23-26, at the Chatham 14 Theaters, 210 W. 87th St. Today's screenings begin at 3pm and include New Orleans documentary Vanishing Pearls, French film Grisgris at 4:40pm, an episode of the web comedy "The Falls" at 6:30pm, short films Quickee Loob and EXO, and locally produced feature Sex Ain't Love at 8pm. There will also be free workshops and panels from 9am to 2pm at Team Englewood High School, 6201 S. Stewart Ave. Tickets to individual screenings are $8 or $40 for a festival pass.

Green Festival @ Navy Pier

The Green Festival swings through Chicago Oct. 24-26 on Navy Pier. Attend panels and workshops on green living topics, browse the exhibit hall, and maybe even adopt a cat or dog. The festival opens at 11 and runs till 6pm today. Tickets are $15 per day, $25 for a weekend pass or $30 for all three days; buy them online and save $5.

Chicago Humanities Festival

The 25th annual Chicago Humanities Festival opens today and runs through Nov. 9. Events today include a conversation with Wallace Shawn, a screening of the Roger Ebert documentary Life Itself followed by a Q&A with Chaz Ebert and Steve James, and a discussion of black theater. Red Scare 10th Anniversary @ Metro

Red Scare Records celebrates its 10th anniversary with a show today at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St. The lineup includes The Falcon, The Lillingtons, The Methadones, Masked Intruder, Enemy You, The Sidekicks, Teenage Bottlerocket, Brendan Kelly & the Wandering Birds, The Holy Mess, Direct Hit!, Elway, The Brokedowns and Reaganomics. Tickets are $25, and doors open at 3pm. 18+

Opening Reception: Thresh/hold @ Roman Susan ANNEX

Megan Sterling's exhibition at the Roman Susan Annex, located in the Howard Theatre at 1637-1643 W. Howard St., is a compilation of work that focuses on hands and feet and the physical and psychological tension that follows. This afternoon at 5pm, the ANNEX will be hosting the opening reception until 8pm. The exhibition is on view until October 29th. The Roman Susan Annex is the gallery's space's off-site program which explores alternative spaces in Rogers Park. The event is free and open to the public.

20x2 Chicago @ Schubas

Gapers Block presents 20x2 Chicago ! Come to Schubas, 3159 N. Southport Ave., tonight to see 20 people from all different walks of creative life -- writers, musicians, filmmakers, web geeks and other bon vivants -- take two minutes each to answer the question of the day. The results can be as varied as the emotions and reactions they evoke. This edition's question is "How do you do?" The featured speakers this time around are Brandy Agerbeck, Gaylon Alcaraz, Bobby Biedrzycki, Jayson Brooks, Jasmine Davila, Melissa Du Prey, Mike Ewing, Hannah Gamble, Fuzzy Gerdes, James Gordon, Darryl Holliday, Leah Jones, Felix Jung, Coya Paz, Melissa Pierce, Erica Reid, Monica Reida, Eden Robins, Jack Silverstein and Jeff Solin. The Toasters @ Beat Kitchen

Third wave ska legends The Toasters headline Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont Ave., tonight, with Run And Punch and Bumsy and the Moochers opening. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door. Doors open at 7:30pm, show's at 8:30pm. 17+

Spektral Quartet @ Constellation

Spektral Quartet do their first show with new violinist Clara Lyon tonight at 8pm at Constellation, . The group will perform the next installment of composer Dave Reminick’s The Ancestral Mousetrap, which pairs the voices of the quartet in four-part, simultaneous harmony with its instruments. Tickets are $12. 18+

Halloween S'mores Tasting @ Veruca Chocolates

Local chocolate shop Veruca Chocolates opens its doors for a Halloween-themed event featuring a custom s'mores bar, seasonal chocolates and plenty of treats to sample. From 11-4 at 2409 N Western Ave (Western & Fullerton).

The Shit Show @ Collaboraction Theater
