Green Festival @ Navy Pier

The Green Festival swings through Chicago Oct. 24-26 on Navy Pier. Attend panels and workshops on green living topics, browse the exhibit hall, and maybe even adopt a cat or dog. The festival opens at 11 and runs till 6pm today. Tickets are $15 per day, $25 for a weekend pass or $30 for all three days; buy them online and save $5.

Chicago Humanities Festival

The 25th annual Chicago Humanities Festival runs Oct. 25 to Nov. 9 in locations all over the city and suburbs. Events today include a Gary Shteyngart reading, a lecture on astrophysics, and a conversation with singer Renee Fleming. See the schedule for full details. Ticket prices vary.

Beat Swap Meet @ Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle hosts Beat Swap Meet Chicago, a chance to buy & trade vinyl with local collectors and dealers. The event runs from noon to 5:00pm, and admission is $5 for free with a canned good. Opening Reception @ PEREGRINEPROGRAM

The show Flamingo Clouds and Blue is opening today from 1pm to 4pm and will be on view until Nov. 23 at PERIGRINEPROGRAM, 3311 W. Carroll Ave. #119. The two artists, Sara Tabatabaie-Raissi and Trace Krug, are both painters who attended SAIC. The event is free.


9th Annual Andersonville Dessert Crawl

Sample desserts from many of Andersonville's restaurants at this afternoon's Dessert Crawl, which runs today from 2-5pm. Choose from two routes (or buy both because you deserve it!); each route (Candy Corn or Caramel Apple) allows you sweets from 12 places, among them M. Henry and Swedish Bakery. Event sponsored by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce (5211 N. Clark St.); tickets $20/route ($25 day of). You can pick up your passports at the Chamber beginning 1pm, tailgate on the street with pushups and power squats, then get eating. See? I've thought a lot about this.

Opening Reception: Nicole Dyer & Matt Hilvers @ South of the Tracks

Open Mic Night, a two person show presenting the works of Baltimore artist, Nicole Dyer and Chicago based artist, Matt Hilvers, opens this afternoon at 4pm. South of the Tracks is an art gallery located on 319 N. Albany Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

The Adventures of Danny & Mike @ Lincoln Hall

Former "Adventures of Pete & Pete" co-stars Danny Tamberelli and Mike Maronna bring their podcast to Lincoln Hall (2424 North Lincoln Avenue) this evening at 6pm. Tickets are $10, or if you pay $25 you can attend the later concert featuring "Pete & Pete" band Polaris. UPDATE: The show has sold out.

Englewood International Film Festival

The Englewood International Film Festival runs Oct. 23-26, at the Chatham 14 Theaters, 210 W. 87th St. Tonight's closing film is Bad Apple, screening at 6pm along with short films Quickee Loob, The Painter and EXO, and locally produced feature Sex Ain't Love at 8pm. Tickets to individual screenings are $8 or $40 for a festival pass.

For Grace Premiere @ Portage Theater

For Grace, a documentary about Chef Curtis Duffy and the making of his restaurant Grace, premieres tonight at .com/event/697747-for-grace-documentary-about-chicago/">the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. Emceed by Peter Sagal, filmmakers Kevin Pang and Mark Helenowski will introduce the film, and there will be a Q&A with them and several of the subjects of the film after the screening -- as well as a performance by the Hudson Branch, whose music is featured in the soundtrack. Doors open at 6pm, screening begins at 7pm. Tickets are $10. Free parking is available at the Sears lot, 4730 W. Irving Park Rd.
