SOFA Chicago @ Navy Pier

The 21st annual SOFA Chicago, the expo of sculptural objects and functional art and design, runs Nov. 7-9 in Festival Hall on Navy Pier. More than 70 galleries from around the world exhibit the works of hundreds of artists. There are also lectures given by artists and gallery owners throughout Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $20, or get a three-day pass for $30; children under 12 admitted free with an adult. The festival is open from 11am to 7pm today. Read our preview in A/C.

First Nations Film & Video Festival

The First Nations Film & Video Festival runs Nov. 5-8 at various locations throughout the city. Today's show is at 1pm at the Illinois State Museum Chicago Gallery on the second floor of the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Each screening will feature the documentary Indian 101 and a selection of shorts. Admission is free.

Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich @ Catherine Edelman Gallery

Perhaps you've seen the photos online of John Malkovich re-creating historic images? Tonight from 5 to 8pm, you get a chance to see them in person, as the Catherine Edelman Gallery, 300 W. Superior St., presents a selection of these photos taken by photographer Sandro Miller. The exhibit will be at the gallery through January 31.

Venus Flytraps, Bugs & People Doing Things Around the House: A Show of Drawings by Zach B (Age 30) & AJ Holub (Age 7)

The Beat Kitchen, located at 2100 W Belmont, will be hosting a lovely show featuring Zach B, an outsider artist, and a "young art prodigy," AJ Holub. The opening night begins tonight at 6pm until midnight. Free and open to the public.


Mint & Serf Graffiti Artists @ Maxwell Colette Gallery

Opening tonight at the Maxwell Colette Gallery at 908 N. Ashland Ave., the two graffiti artists Mint & Serf will be premiering their large scale canvas paintings. The opening reception starts at 6pm and lasts until 9pm. The show will be up until Dec. 31. Read our preview in A/C.

The Interview Show @ Hideout

The Interview Show, hosted by Mark Bazer, returns to the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight from 6:30 to 8pm. Guests this month include musician Kelly Hogan, Illinois State Senator Daniel Biss, sports writer Dave Revsine and comedian Tim Barnes. Doors open at 6pm. Admission is $10. 21+

26th Annual Polish Film Festival

The Polish Film Festival in America begins tonight with a pair of screenings at Facets Cinematheque, 1517 W. Fullerton Ave., and runs through Nov. 23 at various venues. For more details and advance tickets please see the Facets website.

Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists Screening & Discussion @ U of C Film Studies Center

Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists will be screened this evening at University of Chicago's Logan Arts Center, 915 E. 60th St., followed by a panel including Rebecca Zorach, professor of Art History, University of Chicago; Richard Born, senior curator, Smart Museum of Art; Allison Peters Quinn, director of exhibitions and residency programs at the Hyde Park Art Center; Jim Falconer [pdf], member of the original Hairy Who exhibition group. Alivia Zivich Opening Reception @ Night Club

Night Club, 2017 W. Moffat St. #1, will be featuring the show Bottomless, exhibiting work by Alivia Zivich tonight from 7 to 9pm. The work will remain up until Dec. 5. Free.

Bob Odenkirk @ UP Comedy Club

Comedian Bob Odenkirk, co-creator of "Mr. Show" and now probably better known as Saul on "Breaking Bad," celebrates the release of his new book, A Load of Hooey, with shows at UP Comedy Club, 230 W. North Ave., Thursday and today. Chris Witaske, Brandon Wardell and Tom Johnson also perform standup. Doors open at 7:15pm, show's at 8 Tickets are $45 and include a copy of the book. 21+

The Tiger Lillies @ Portage Theater

The Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., welcomes The Tiger Lillies, the "avant garde cabaret band" who notably wrote the music for the macabre stage hit Shockheaded Peter. The band will be playing two shows, tonight at 8pm and Saturday. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door. Full details at the theater's website.

LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs @ Renaissance Society

At 8pm tonight, LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs will bring words, sounds, and video in her performance at the Renaissance Society, 5811 S. Ellis Ave. in Hyde Park. The event is associated and programmed through the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture at the University of Chicago. Free.

You're Being Ridiculous @ Mary's Attic

You're Being Ridiculous, the sassy, funny and fun storytelling show created by Jeremy Owens, is back tonight in Andersonville. With three shows this month, there's sure to be a date that matches your calendar. Come out tonight to hear stories on the theme "Confession" from Brooke Allen, Eileen Dougharty, Karen Genelly, Samantha Irby, Jeremy Owens, Jeremy Schaefer, and Michael Van Kerckhove.
