The Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave., hosts the Chicago Independent Labels Pop Up Shop today from noon to 5pm. Shop for local vinyl, CDs, tapes and other merch. No cover, 21+
Enjoy a night at the Green Mill, 4802 N. Broadway, and see open mic performances of poetry and the end-of-the-night competition for just $7. The Uptown Poetry Slam starts at 7pm and is hosted by the slam originator, Marc Smith. Winners receive $10 and bragging rights.
Tonight at 7pm, Quimby's Bookstore takes over Livewire Lounge, 3394 N Milwaukee Ave., to create an event mashup of words and music that's been unseen before in Chicago. The show, 3 Songs, 3 Writers Reading About Those Songs, features Mike "McBeardo" McPadden will read a story about the Generation X song "Kiss Me Deadly." Writer Celia Forrest will read something on the DBs song "Black and White," and a mystery guest reading about the Blondie song "X Offender." All songs then will be performed live by the punk a capella outfit the Blue Ribbon Glee Club. No cover, 21+
The Living Statues, a rock band from Milwaukee, will be performing at Schubas, 3159 N Southport Ave. Be prepared to rock out to some great tunes. Moon and Pool Holograph will be opening. The show is free and begins at 8 p.m.. 21+.
