DarkMatter, a trans south asian performance art duo, will be inviting the public for an evening of poetry, discussion, and healing, over the topic of new queer futures. The show will be followed by a Q&A at the Arts Incubator location at 301 E Garfield Blvd. Doors open at 5PM. Free and open to the public.
Do Not Submit, the open mic storytelling series, is at First Unitarian Church, 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave., the first Friday of every month. Hosts Andrea Freerksen and Dhamana Shauri oversee things as folks from all walks of life tell seven-minute stories from 7 to 9:30pm. Admission is free.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the 20th annual Asian American Showcase, starting this evening and running through April 16. Kathryn Schulmeister will be playing the double bass tonight at High Concept Labs at 2233 S. Throop St., on the 4th floor of Mana Contemporary. This is the second component of Fonema Consort's HCL residency program. The event begins at 8pm and is free and open to the public.
