Hot Mix Lunch @ Daley Plaza

Today from noon-1pm, enjoy free house music from the Chosen Few DJs under the Picasso in Daley Plaza downtown. The "Hot Mix Lunch" will take place once a month this summer by the same awesome collective who bring you The Chosen Few Picnic on July 4 in Jackson Park.

Jonathan Levin @ Preston Bradley Hall

As a part of the Dame Myra Hess Concerts series, pianist Jonathan Levin will be performing today at 12:15 pm in the Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center, located at 78 E. Washington. Admission is free.

Third Coast Listening Room @ Co-Prosperity Sphere

The Third Coast International Audio Festival presents the finalists for its annual ShortDocs competition at a Third Coast Listening Room event at Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St., tonight from 6 to 9pm. The theme for this year's competition was "Studs' Rules," in honor of Studs Terkel. Come listen to the finalists and vote on your favorite to win the "People's Short Doc Award." Tickets are $10.

Margaret McMullan @ Harold Washington Library

Author Margaret McMullan will be reading Aftermath Lounge in the Reception Hall on the Lower Level of the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St., tonight at 6pm. Aftermath Lounge is a collection of stories set in a Mississippi gulf coast town that discusses the wake of destruction left by Hurricane Katrina, with the 10 year anniversary of the storm just around the corner. McMullan will also discuss the book she recently curated, Every Father's Daughter, a collection of essays from women writing on their fathers. Admission to the event is free; books will be available for purchase, and the author will be signing autographs. Seating is first come, first served in the Reception Hall, which seats 80.

Sample many of Avondale's finest eats (from Chief O'Neill's to Pork Shoppe) tonight beginning at 6pm, with trolley service and entertainment along the way. Tickets start at $20.

Kenan Heise @ Harold Washington Library

Author and journalist Kenan Heise will be discussing his autobiography He Writes About Us: An Autobiography of a Chicago Journalist tonight at 6pm in the Chicago Authors Room on the 7th floor of the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. Admission to the event is free and books will be available for purchase.

Oral @ the Annoyance

Moth StorySLAM winner Erin Diamond and Comedian Bente Engelstoft host Oral, a new weekly storytelling hour at the Annoyance Theatre and Bar, 951 W. Belmont Ave., at 8pm. This week's readers include Nicole Cassell Carter, Wendy Mateo, Damian Anaya, Sam Bailey and Julia Weiss. Admission is $8.
