Chicago Alternative Comics Expo

CAKE 2015, the celebration and marketplace for independent comics, runs Saturday and today from 11am to 6pm at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. Attend panel discussions and workshops, meet comics artists, and buy cool stuff. See the schedule for a list of ancillary events. Admission is free.

Chicago's Taste of Mexico @ 26th & California

The first Taste of Little Village's Flavors of Mexico: Chicago's Taste of Mexico is shaping up to be a top festival for food-lovers this summer. The Fest begins today at 12pm, featuring tastes from local restaurants, a main stage with "big" entertainment, a Culinary stage where chefs will demonstrate recipes and duke it out to become the "Top Chef", and a Showcase State where dance troupes, orchestras, and brass bands from area high schools or colleges will perform. There is even going to be a giant, and authentic, Mexican carnival. Admission is free. The Fest will be held at W. 26th St. and California Ave.

Art Paul "Hard Heads, Sweet Knees, Forked Tongues" Opening Reception @ Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art

Opening today from 6-9PM, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is presenting artist, Art Paul, in his new exhibition, "Hard Heads, Sweet Knees, Forked Tongues". Paul served as the art director for Playboy for 30 years and also designed the rabbit head logo. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is located at 2320 W Chicago Ave Chicago. Open and free to the public.


The Barack Obama Presidential Library Opening Reception @ Hyde Park Free Theater

The Hyde Park Free Theater, located at 1448 East 57th St., hosts an opening reception tonight from 5 to 9pm for The Barack Obama Presidential Library. Free.

The Interview Show @ Hideout

The Interview Show returns to the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., tonight from 6:30 to 8pm. Host Mark Bazer's guests this month are music journalist Jessica Hopper, chef John Manion, comedian Pat McGann and actor Mary Beth Fisher. Tickets are $10 online or at the door. Doors open at 5:30pm. 21+

826CHI's Prologue @ Cliff Dwellers Club

826CHI presents Prologue, a literary cocktail party, tonight from 7 to 10pm at the Cliff Dwellers Club, 200 S. Michigan Ave., Floor 22. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, and bid on prize packages in a raffle. Best-selling author Elizabeth Berg and 826CHI student-authors will be in attendance. Tickets are $85 per ticket and $125 per VIP ticket and can be purchased online.

Premier Premieres! @ Music Comedy Live Chicago

Music Comedy Live Presents Premier Premieres! a weekend festival full of brand new musical comedies, resuming tonight at 7pm on MCL Chicago's stage, located at 3110 N. Sheffield. Tonight's first showing will be Headshot: A Geek Tragedy, a comedic story centered on a gaming world that goes beyond the virtual. Tickets for the show are $15. The second show of the night, Tapped, will start at 9pm and follows an NSA agent who falls in love with the whistleblower she's supposed to spy on. Tickets for Tapped are also $15, or you can buy a Friday Night Pass for $25 to attend both shows. You can also buy a festival pass for $65, plus a $4 online transaction fee (insert eye roll here). The festival will run from Thursday night through Saturday.

Andy Schumm & his Gin Bottle Four @ Old Town School

Andy Schumm and his Gin Bottle Four will be performing vintage dance and jazz music from the 1920s tonight at 8:30pm at Old Town School of Folk Music's Szold Music and Dance Hall, 4545 N. Lincoln Ave., as a part of the Old Town School's Global Dance Party Series. The weekly series offers participants an opportunity to experiment with various global styles. The evening is composed of a dance class, followed by two hours of live music where students can test out their new skills. Tickets are $12.
