Chicago Alternative Comics Expo

CAKE 2015, the celebration and marketplace for independent comics, runs today and Sunday from 11am to 6pm at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. Attend panel discussions and workshops, meet comics artists, and buy cool stuff. See the schedule for a list of ancillary events. Admission is free.

Pilsen Food Truck Social

The Pilsen Food Truck Social brings together 25 of the city's food trucks for an outdoor festival on 19th Street between Racine and Throop, in front of Thalia Hall, from 11am to 10pm today and Sunday. There'll be lots of food, live music and other fun stuff. Purchase a $20 sampler ticket and you'll get five $4 tickets redeemable for sample size portions at the food trucks or drinks. $5 donation requested at the gate to support the Illinois Food Truck Owners Association and Saint Procopius Church food bank and soup kitchen.

Lagunitas Beer Circus SOLD OUT

Lagunitas Brewery (2607 W. 17th St.) turns into a massive circus today from noon to 5pm; enjoy beer while a bevy of circus acts perform. Event benefits PAWS Chicago. Tickets are $40. 21+ UPDATE: Totally sold out.

Claire Sherman "Funeral Mountain" Opening Reception @ Kavi Gupta Gallery

Kavi Gupta Gallery, located at 835 W Washington Blvd., will be hosting an opening reception from 4-7PM this evening for Claire Sherman's solo exhibition, Funeral Mountain. The exhibition includes works on paper and paintings. Free and open to the public.

Hebru Brantley "Memoirs of the Minimum Wage" Opening Reception @ Vertical Gallery

Beginning at 6pm, Vertical Gallery will be opening the new exhibition, "Memoirs of the Minimum Wage" which features a survey of middle-class America. The artist, Hebru Brantley displays this topic through sketches, watercolors, paintings and sculptures. Vertical Gallery is located at 1016 N Western Ave. Free and open to the public.

Premier Premieres! @ Music Comedy Live Chicago

Music Comedy Live presents Premier Premieres! a weekend festival full of brand new musical comedies, resuming tonight at 6:30pm on MCL Chicago's stage, located at 3110 N. Sheffield. Tonight's first showing will be The Quest for the Perfect Woman, the comedic story of a gameshow titled "Quest for the Perfect Woman" where four women compete for the title "Perfect Woman" until one decides to put an end to the nonsense. Tickets for the show are $15. The second show of the night, The Thanksgiving Circumcision, will start at 8:30pm, but unfortunately is sold out. The third show of the night, Self-Starters, follows best friends John and Grant, as they try to find jobs after college. After lackluster success in the job industry, they decide to forge a new path, by forging resumes professionally. Tickets for the show are also $15, or you can buy a Saturday Night Pass for $35. You can also buy a festival pass for $65, plus a $4 online transaction fee (insert eye roll here). The festival will run from Thursday night through Saturday.

Victoria Martinez "Eleven Eleven" @ Elastic Arts

From 8pm until 12am, Elastic Arts, is inviting the public to view Victoria Martinez's evolving installation. Following this exhibition, Martinez will exhibit at the Comfort Station in July and create site-specific sculptures with teenagers from the Logan Square Neighborhood Association. Elastic Arts in located at 3429 W Diversey Ave #208. The exhibition is on view until August 30th.

Marc Maron @ The Vic

Standup and podcaster Marc Maron is doing two shows at the Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield Ave., tonight, and recording both for an upcoming comedy album. The 7pm show is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the 10pm show -- they're $35. Doors open at 9pm. 18+
