Avalon String Quartet @ Preston Bradley Hall

As a part of the Dame Myra Hess Concerts series, the Avalon String Quartet will be performing today at 12:15 pm for the Al Booth Memorial Concert. The performance will be held in Preston Bradley Hall in the Chicago Cultural Center, located at 78 E. Washington. Admission is free.

Bronzeville Comedy Showcase @ Blanc Gallery

Vocalo kicks off the ninth season of the Bronzeville Comedy Showcase at Blanc Gallery, 4445 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., tonight at 6pm. The show will feature stand-up sets by Felonious Munk and Adam Burke and improv sets from Stir Friday Night, PIMPROV and Los Improviachis. Tim Barnes hosts. Admission is free, and there will be free barbecue available. Adult beverages are $5.

EFF Fundraiser @ Cards Against Humanity

Cards Against Humanity, 1917 N. Elston Ave., hosts a fundraiser for the Electronic Frontier Foundation tonight at 7pm. The event will feature a meet & greet with EFF Executive Director Cindy Cohn, as well as sketch and stand-up comedy, plus beer and snacks. Tickets are $100, though a limited number of free student tickets are available.

Miss Spoken @ Gallery Cabaret

Miss Spoken returns to the Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley Ave., tonight at 7pm. The theme this month is "swimsuit season," and the readers will be Hope Rehak, Eileen Tull, Megan Kirby and Miden Wood; Rosamund Lannin and Carly Oishi host. No cover, but donations to pay the readers accepted. 21+

Toro Y Moi @ Metro

Nelarusky, a fundraiser for Special Olympics, presents Toro Y Moi tonight at the Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., as an official Lollapalooza afterparty (that's really a pre-party). Young Buffalo and John Splithoff open. Tickets are $26. Doors open at 7pm, show's at 8pm.

Midnight @ Northeastern

The Northwest Chicago Film Society presents a screening of the 1939 film Midnight, starring John Barrymore, Claudette Colbert and Don Ameche, tonight at 7pm in the Auditorium at Northeastern Illinois University, Building E, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Admission is $5 ($2 for NEIU students).

Stupid Fucking Bird @ Victory Gardens Theater

A very loose adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull, Stupid Fucking Bird is sure to delight with its comedic twists on a classic tale. Written by Aaron Posner and performed by Sideshow Theatre, the tale centers around two generations of Russians living on a country estate and a whole lot of bird-based metaphors. Through this piece, Sideshow Theater explores what motivates us to make art and love in this hilarious re-staging, and is surely not to be missed. Tickets range from $33-$49. 2nd Story @ Mayne Stage

Mayne Stage hosts the latest performance of 2nd Story, the live story-telling series. Scheduled to read tonight: Jess Kadish, Khanisha Foster, Nick Ward and Sam Bailey. Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts at 8:00pm, and tickets are $20. Mayne Stage: 1328 W. Morse. Box office: (773) 381-4554.
