Chicago Jazz Festival

The 37th annual Chicago Jazz Festival runs Sept. 3-6 in Millennium Park, 201 E. Randolph St., and Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. The festival begins at noon; see the schedule for details. Free.

North Coast Music Festival

The North Coast Music Festival rolls into Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St., Sept 4-6. Tonight's headliners include the Glitch Mob, Knife Party and Widespread Panic. Doors open today at 3pm. Three-day passes are sold out, but tickets for today are $69 or $99 for VIP. All ages.

Around the Coyote Festival

Around the Coyote returns to Wicker Park/Bucktown this weekend, Sept. 4-6, at the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave. Festival hours are 6-10pm Friday and noon to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. There is a $5 cover charge at the door. Proceeds support the work of the Flat Iron Artists Association. More info available on Facebook.

Jangleheart Circus Comedy Festival @ Annoyance Theatre

The comedy festival's second of three nights features 19 acts at the Annoyance, 851 W. Belmont Ave., including stand-up from Late Night with Seth Meyers writer Conner O'Malley and the Annoyance's experimental group Holy Fuck Comedy Hour. Chicago Fringe Festival

The Chicago Fringe Festival runs Sept. 3-13 in five venues throughout the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Pick up a festival button (required for all shows) for $5 online or at Fischman's Liquors, 4780 N. Milwaukee Ave., then take your pick of the many performances of experimental theater, performance art, sketch comedy, dance and more -- see the schedule for daily details. Tickets to performances are $10, with multi-show tickets available. Shows start at 7pm tonight.

Book Cellar Spelling Bee

The Book Cellar, 4736 N. Lincoln Ave., hosts its annual adult spelling bee tonight at 7pm. Celebrity host Kelsie Huff and literary judges James Kennendy and Robbie Q Telfer preside over a battle of the word warriors as they go for prizes. Call 773-293-2665 to get involved.

Female Trouble @ Music Box

"Who wants to die for art?" That question is posed by Dawn Davenport (played memorably by Divine), a teenage runaway who lives a depraved, sordid life that has to be seen to be believed.
