Chicago Museum Week

The first annual Chicago Museum Week runs Oct. 1-7. A dozen museums (Adler Planetarium, Art Insitute, Chicago History Museum, DuSable Museum, Field Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, MCA, Museum of Science & Industry, National Museum of Mexican Art, National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Shedd Aquarium) are offering free or discounted admission as well as special events and exhibits. BOLD: Alternative Scenarios for Chicago

The Chicago Architecture Biennial kicks off with "BOLD: Alternative Scenarios for Chicago," an exhibition of Chicago-based architects showcasing new ideas and alternative development scenarios for Chicago, curated by Iker Gil of MAS Studio. The show opens today at 9am at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. Free.

Lincoln Square Apple Fest

Lincoln Square Apple Fest runs from 9am to 5pm today on Lincoln Avenue between Lawrence and Leland (the bit that's semi-cut off from major roads, in other words.) Eat all sorts of apple products, from caramel apples to apple pie, wash it down with cider and enjoy all sorts of family-friendly activities. Free.

Taste Talks

The Taste Talks food conference and festival runs Oct. 2-4 at several locations. Today's brunch, conference sessions and demos will be held at Morgan's on Fulton, 950 W Fulton St., from 10am to 7pm, followed by a pop-up gastropub cheffed by April Bloomfield starting at 7pm at the Virgin Hotel, 203 N. Wabash Ave. Tickets to the conference are $100; the gastropub is another $100. Get an multi-day pass for $150-450.

Empty Bottle Garage Sale

The Empty Bottle holds a garage sale today, starting at noon. No word on what's going to be sold, but no doubt this is going to be a fantastic event! Admission is free. Empty Bottle: 1035 N. Western. (773) 276-3600.

Rocktober Beerfest

Who says outdoor festival season is over? Rocktober Beerfest runs Oct. 2-4 at Plumbers Hall, 1340 W. Washington St. Enjoy Goose Island beers, brats and pretzels from Publican Quality Meats, and live music by the same bands you see at every neighborhood fest. The fest runs from noon to 11pm tonight. $10 admission, or spend $40 and get a commemorative stein, two beers and a hot pretzel. 21+

The Amazing Acro-Cats @ Vittum Theater

The Amazing Acro-Cats perform for four nights at the Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Watch the cats do a variety of circus tricks, play music and more. Tonight's performances are at 5 and 8pm. Tickets are $22, or $20 for seniors and students.

Stony Island Arts Bank Grand Opening

The Rebuild Foundation celebrates the grand opening of the Stony Island Arts Bank, 6760 S. Stony Island Ave., tonight from 5 to 8pm as part of the Chicago Architecture Biennial. The space will show an installation by Portuguese artist Carlos Bunga. Free.

Hermant/Butler Opening Reception @ The Franklin

The Franklin will be featuring, Hermant/Butler, this evening from 6-9PM. The exhibition includes a two person show by artists, Emily Hermant and Ben Butler. The Franklin is located at 3528 W. Fulton Blvd.

Robot Apocalypse @ Roberts Square Park

Story Luck sponsors Robot Apocalypse: Journey to the End of the Night tonight! Explore forgotten and hidden parts of Chicago for a citywide game of capture the flag to help fight the robot apocalypse. A trophy goes to the fastest human! 50 States of Gay @ Under the Gun Theater

White Light / White Heat @ Empty Bottle

Middle Brow Brewery presents members of the bands Thin Hymns, J Fernandez and Mines performing Velvet Underground's seminal album, White Light / White Heat, tonight at Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Doors open at 9pm. Scottie McNiece DJs, too. Tickets are $5, a proceeds benefit Trilogy, a behavioral health organization serving Chicagoans with serious mental illnesses and substance use issues. 21+
