Chicago Museum Week

The first annual Chicago Museum Week runs Oct. 1-7. A dozen museums (Adler Planetarium, Art Insitute, Chicago History Museum, DuSable Museum, Field Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, MCA, Museum of Science & Industry, National Museum of Mexican Art, National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Shedd Aquarium) are offering free or discounted admission as well as special events and exhibits. Kultura Festival @ Emporium

Filipino food and culture is the center of today's Kultura Festival, which runs 11am-6pm at Emporium (2363 N. Milwaukee Ave.). Chefs from the city's prominent Filipino restaurants (Maddy's Dumpling House, the former Pecking Order, etc.) will cook up the food; visual art and music accompanies the eating. Tickets $10; $5 senior citizens or students with valid ID. Kids under 5 are free.

Rocktober Beerfest

Who says outdoor festival season is over? Rocktober Beerfest runs Oct. 2-4 at Plumbers Hall, 1340 W. Washington St. Enjoy Goose Island beers, brats and pretzels from Publican Quality Meats, and live music by the same bands you see at every neighborhood fest. The fest runs from noon to 10pm today. $10 admission, or spend $40 and get a commemorative stein, two beers and a hot pretzel. 21+

Taste Talks

The Taste Talks food conference and festival runs Oct. 2-4 at several locations. Today's events include an All-Star BBQ in Palmer Square Park, 2200 N. Kedzie Ave., with sessions at noon and 2:30pm. Tickets are $52.50, and include samples of a wide variety of grilled foods. Get an multi-day pass for $150-450.

Cajun Dance Party @ Empty Bottle

The Cajun French Music Association hosts a dance party today, featuring the Cajun Aces, at 2pm at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. 21+

The Amazing Acro-Cats @ Vittum Theater

The Amazing Acro-Cats perform for four nights at the Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Watch the cats do a variety of circus tricks, play music and more. Tonight's performances are at 5 and 8pm. Tickets are $22, or $20 for seniors and students.

James Sie Book Event @ Lifeline Theatre

Jeff Award winning playwright and former Lifeline Theatre Ensemble Member, James Sie talks about his debut novel (with illustrator Sungyoon Choi), Still Life Las Vegas, tonight from 6:30 to 8pm at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave. A reception will follow tonight's reading. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. RSVP at info@lifelinetheatre.com or call 773-761-4477.

Chicago Comedy Hack Day Finals

Chicago Comedy Hack Day teams show off their products tonight at the Cards Against Humanity office, 1917 N. Elston Ave., from 7 to 9pm. Watch as each team hilariously explains their project to a panel of judges including local tech and comedy luminaries Harper Reed, Tricia Bobeda, Kristen Toomey and Sonia Denis. Maya May emcees. Tickets are $15.

Genevieve @ Subterranean

Genevieve, the charismatic former singer of Company of Thieves, brings her solo show to the Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave., tonight, with Even Thieves (no relation) opening. Doors are at 8pm, show's at 8:30pm. $12 online or at the door. 17+
