Chefs from five of the city's swellest restaurants (among them Chrissy Camba from Maddy's Dumpling House and Ashlee Aubin from Wood & Salero) duke it out tonight at WBEZ's 8th Annual Chefs Battle at Kendall College (900 North Branch). You sample their dishes, vote for the best, and put the rest onto the bus home. Tickets start at $35.
The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., presents a screening of the French classic Cléo from 5 to 7 tonight at 7:30pm, as part of the University of Chicago's CinéVarda Expo. Director Agnès Varda will be in attendance. Tickets are $12 in advance or at the door.
Flick Lit, a new movie-themed storytelling series, debuts tonight at the Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 7:30pm. Featured readers include Sharon Glissy, Eileen Tull, Jake Scruggs, and special musical guest Tirzah Manley. The show also features musical guests, a short Siskel & Ebert-style film debate segment, and film trivia with prizes for the audience. Kirk Kicklighter, Laura Scruggs, Greg Ledger and Cameren Rau host. Free; donations accepted.
CHIRP Radio's First Time reading series is back at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., at 8pm. The theme this time is "First Sign," and the readers include Alisa Rosenthal, Steve Dawson and Diane Christiansen, Jeremy Owens, James Gordon, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Tony Fitzpatrick and Julie Mueller. Jenn Sodini hosts, and the First Time Three perform covers of songs related to each story. Tickets are $10. 21+
