The Halloween Gathering @ The Cultural Mile

The Chicago Cultural Mile is filling up the Halloween festivities with an amazing opportunity to experience the art world with your kids from 2pm to 8pm today! Hosting a children's costume parade at Maggie Daley Park, mask-making workshops, free performances and family-friendly activities, the Cultural Mile between Madison and Roosevelt along Michigan Ave is the place to experience everything Halloweeny with friends and family. Family-friendly festivities include theatrical performance, magic, street performers, a kids costume parade at 2pm 2pm-5pm at locations in Millennium and Grant parks, then from 6pm-8pm, a Halloween Parade will travel north on Columbus from Balbo to Monroe. Free.

Fleek Market & Rummage Sale

The Fleek Market & Rummage Sale runs from 9am to 4pm today at Hales Franciscan High School, 4930 S. Cottage Grove Ave. Shop for designer clothing, antiques and collectibles, jewelry, baby items, toys, games and more. Admission is free.

Chicago International Map Fair

The International Map Fair runs Oct. 23-25 at the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA), 820 N. Michigan Ave., from 10am to 5pm. Browse vintage and modern maps, globes, atlases, prints and more. Weekend passes are $5 in advance, $10 at the door.

Third Coast Filmless Festival

The Third Coast Filmless Festival runs Oct. 23-25 at ChiArts, 2714 W. Augusta Blvd. Today's programming begins at 10:30am and includes audio screenings, Q&As, live podcast tapings, and the Third Coast Audio Awards at 7:30pm. See the full schedule for details. Weekend passes have sold out, but limited tickets to individual events range from $12 to $20 and may be available at the door.

Empty Bottle Book Club: Modern Romance

Music Box of Horrors

Mac & Cheese Fest

The second annual Mac & Cheese Fest takes place today at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Rd. Taste gourmet macaroni and cheese creations from some of the area's best chefs at one of two sessions -- noon to 3pm or 6:30 to 9:30pm. Tickets are $60 and include five drink tickets; $100 VIP tickets get you priority check-in, access to a VIP section and a t-shirt. A portion of the proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House.

History of the Hot Dog @ Chicago History Museum

NU professor Bill Savage takes you on a bus tour documenting the city's love of hot dogs today at 1pm through the Chicago History Museum, 1601 N. Clark St. Tickets start at $45.

Yotam Ottolenghi @ Cahn Auditorium

The British chef known for Mediterranean cooking gives a talk and signs books tonight at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St, 5-6pm as part of the Chicago Humanities Festival. Tickets $10-20.

"Nostalgia" Opening Reception @ SHoP

Ryan Chambers will be presenting 15 works of art at the Southside Hub of Production (SHoP) tonight from 6 to 9pm. The exhibition will feature memories and content from the artists children in the form of Digital Minimalism. Refreshments and '90s music will be provided; free, donations accepted. SHoP is located at 1448 E. 57th St.

The View From My Summer Home In Space @ saki

Chicago-based artist Max Clarke will reveal his new art work, The View From My Summer Home at saki, 3716 W. Fullerton Ave. The free event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., will feature live music performances from Clarke's band The Cut Worms along with duo Wet Wallet.

Live Movie Riffing w/MST3K Stars @ North Bar

Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff, the mad scientists from "Mystery Science Theater 3000," will be at North Bar, 1637 W. North Ave., Friday and tonight for some live movie riffing. Two shows each night, at 7 and 10pm, each with a different movie (sorry, they haven't revealed which ones.) Tickets are $30 for each show. 21+

50 States of Gay @ Under the Gun Theater

This show 50 States of Gay: Let Freedom (Cock)Ring!, will premiere at Under the Gun Theater, 956 W. Newport Ave., at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students) and can be purchased by calling 773-270-3440 or online here.

The Halloween Gathering VIP After Party @ The Plaza

The Plaza (11 N. Michigan Ave.) presents the Halloween Gathering After-Party from 8pm-11pm after The Halloween Gathering at Grant Park. As The Plaza's last event for the season, make the most of the opportunity to be outside, enjoy live music, food, drinks, and interactive arts installations (by the artist George Berlin).
