Author and ghost folklorist Ursula Bielski presents a talk on "Ghosts of Chicago Christmas Past" at the Chicago Public Library's Bezazian branch, 1226 W. Ainslie St., tonight at 6:30pm. Come hear holiday ghost stories that'll put a chill down your spine. Free.
Women & Children First, 5233 N. Clark St., hosts Recommeded Reading Night, a new literary series featuring local authors talking about their favorite books, tonight at 7pm. Participants in the inaugural event include Gina Frangello, Aleksander Hemon, Rebecca Makkai, Eric Charles May and Christine Sneed. Snacks, wine and cider will be served, and singer-songwriter Gerald Dowd will perform live. Free.
Joanna Newsom headlines the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., tonight with Alela Diane and Ryan Francesconi opening. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets are $29.50-$49.50.
The Logan Square bar (2421 N. Milwaukee) becomes a nerd's paradise tonight at 8:30pm and 11:00pm (doors open 6pm) when it transforms into the infamous Chalmun's Cantina from the movie Star Wars. Musicians will transform into Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes and play the tunes that made this movie famous. Costumes encouraged.
