Shade Brigade Beats Gang Green; Syndicate Loses to Ohio All-Stars
The Chicago Outfit's b-team, the Shade Brigade, took home a win Saturday against the Ohio Roller Girls' b-team, the Gang Green.
The Shade Brigade held Gang Green scoreless for the first eight minutes of the bout, jumping out to a 29-0 lead. But Gang Green went on a 51-0 run to take the lead from the Shade Brigade. At the half, the Shade Brigade led 99-60.
The second half was all Shade Brigade. Though Gang Green did manage to chip away at the Shade Brigade's lead, Shade Brigade jammers seemed to find every hole in Gang Green's defense and won the bout 199-128.
"I think we did a really good job keeping our walls tight," the Shade Brigade's Smashtag said after the bout.
Shade Brigade jammer Graves sprained her knee with 6:21 left in the game and did not return to the track.
The Outfit's a-team, the Syndicate, did not fare as well, losing to the Ohio's a-team, the All Stars, 273-107.
Syndicate jammer Queefer Sutherland said after the bout that Ohio's blocking made it difficult to score points.
"They were so physical," she said. "They block with their entire bodies and they recycle like crazy."
She said the Syndicate needs to do better at keeping their jammers out of the penalty box and said they were called for a lot of track cutting penalties Saturday.
"I'm curious to know what the score would have been if not for the power jams," she said.
